Plan ahead for your visit to Upton and make the most of your round with our course map. For a more detailed look at each of the holes click on the map and see a detailed visual of the 18 holes and read the helpful tips from our resident professional Steve Dewhurst.

1st Hole
The first hole at Upton-by-Chester Golf Club is a short Par 3 that drops down to a raised green. There is trouble behind the green in the shape of trees and a pond.

2nd Hole
The second hole is a difficult dog-leg left Par 4. Keep your drive to the right to avoid being blocked out by the fence. Your second is into a two tier green guarded by two bunkers.

3rd Hole
The third hole is a short Par 4 that runs right to left as you approach the green. Members often lay up to more accurately play into a green with interesting borrows.

4th Hole
The Par 3 fourth hole has a raised green that places a premium on hitting the green with your tee shot. If you are going to miss the green leave it short.

5th Hole
A Par 4 with out of bounds down the left, however favouring the left provides the best approach shot. The green is set in a hollow with bunkers left and right.

6th Hole
A tricky Par 3 that is raised and well trapped requiring an accurate tee shot. Anything left leaves a very difficult approach.

7th Hole
A long and challenging Par 4 which puts a premium on a well placed left of centre tee shot, setting up a second into a raised green that falls away on all sides.

8th Hole
The clever play into this short Par4 is to lay up right of centre for the best approach into the green. Driving long left or right leaves a difficult recovery shot.

9th Hole
A Par 5 with pine trees all down the right with Out of Bounds behind them. Shots should favour the left half of the fairway that runs left to right.

10th Hole
A short Par 3 with a slightly raised green, miss the green and you have a delicate shot in up a bank or over a bunker.

11th Hole
A relatively straight Par 4 with a fairway that runs right to left. If you run into the trees on either side with your drive, you will be lucky to find an approach to the green.

12th Hole
A demanding Par 4 which needs a drive left of centre to set up a difficult approach between two mature trees. Go right into the ‘coffin’, a depression on the right and you are in trouble.

13th Hole
A par 5 where you will benefit from keeping the ball on the fairway, drifting into the trees or an overly ambitious shot to the green spells trouble.

14th Hole
A Par 4 dog leg left with Out of Bounds running down the left hand side almost all the way to the green. Stroke 1 on the card, is sufficient warning to keep the ball on the fairway avoiding the temptation to cut the corner.

15th Hole
A picturesque Par 3 over a pond to a tight green. The safe option is to play for the right half of the green.

16th Hole
You can benefit on this par 5 from driving down the right hand side of the fairway, but you are tempting fate with the pond. The green is slightly raised and well bunkered.

17th Hole
A long Par 3, aim left of centre if you are planning to run the ball in to a green with some difficult borrows.

18th Hole
A Par 4 requiring a straight drive over the pond between the mature trees. The green is on two levels and you will benefit from being on the right level.
